HireVue is a company who's focus is on improving the interviewing process for both the interviewee and interviewer. This is done by bringing the interview process online, so that more candidate's can be seen, and so that candidates can take the interview whenever works best for them. While I worked at HireVue I would work primarily with the Support, User Experience, and Product teams to make sure all our designs and features were getting the testing that they needed.
My Mission
I had a few friends working at HireVue and heard great things about the company and its product. I started by working in support and would use what I learn to improve the app by working with the UX and product teams.
At the time designs would be built to spec without any testing or feedback from users. I saw that this needed to change to make the best product to feed user needs. I decided to make sure this was fixed and made it my mission to see that everything was tested.
During my time in support, I would take notes on what was not clear to users, then bring that to the UX team so that we can reduce confusion and call volume.
Later I created a participant pool that I could use to test new designs with, this became my favorite part of the job. I would watch users go through our new designs to see what worked and where we needed to go back to the drawing board.
One of the first things that I worked on was a redesign of the emails that candidates would receive. Having worked on Support I regularly spoke with users and knew exactly what kinds of questions are common. Above is the redesign, that is now being sent to candidates for many different companies.
I did work on other projects and redesigns with HireVue, though they are things that I am not able to talk about. For these I would speak with a handful of people and watch as they went through a new design, I would ask them questions about what they expected to happen or what their needs were. Often times we would rapidly iterate on these designs sometimes changing them from one participant to the next. It was incredibly fast-paced and a lot of fun working with these changes and seeing everything come together right before my eyes.
